OK TOM, in your own words what makes Canadian oil "the most ethical in the world" - more ethical than the stuff produced in the North Sea for example?

      GF,
"Canada's oil is the most ethical in the world. It's produced where workers enjoy the highest standards and rights, women and minorities are treated as equals, peace and democracy are promoted and environmental standards and regulations are strictly enforced."

      Our Oil is on land:

North Sea oil spill risk 'unacceptably high', claims European commission

The European commission has warned that the likelihood of a Deepwater Horizon-type accident in the North Sea remains "unacceptably high" as it outlined new laws to counter the danger.

The moves have angered the UK government and offshore oil industry while threatening to put a brake on some of the huge profits declared by big North Sea operators Shell and ExxonMobil.

Brussels officials defended their plans to in effect seize overall control of North Sea regulation from the British authorities.

"We need to prevent accidents like Deepwater Horizon in the Gulf of Mexico from happening," said energy commissioner Günther Oettinger. "Securing best industry practices in all our offshore operations is an undisputable must. Today's proposal is a crucial step forward towards safer offshore activities to the benefit of our citizens and our environment."

In Britain the Department of Energy and Climate Change said it was "very concerned" the moves could undermine its already strong safety regime. The Oil & Gas UK industry association said it opposed the proposals.

Malcolm Webb, chief executive of the association, said: "Relinquishing regulatory control to the EU, which has no established competence in this matter and where only three out of the 27 member states have an offshore oil and gas industry of real scale, risks undermining safety and environmental performance here in the UK."

Among those hit by the proposed new licensing, inspection and liability rules would be Shell and ExxonMobil, two of the world's biggest oil companies, which often work together in the North Sea."

Tom...did you know that the whole oilsands industry is a giant SCAM?

If it weren't for all the federal and provincial tax holidays, extremely low royalty rates (if and when they kick in), cheap and practically free natural gas to waste and free water there would be little or NO extraction of oil. WE the people subsidize the industry big time. It takes one pile of energy to extract the energy contained in that crappy bitumen. Better off to use canola oil for diesel fuel and corn to make alcohol for our cars than that expensive and inefficient oilsands process.

There is no way to clean up those huge ponds of contaminated water up at Fort McMurray without spending a fortune. Every year there are more ponds and lagoons of poisonous water to be reckoned with. Its a huge wasteland...go take a look some time...it will open your eyes to what is really going on.

Like I said, it IS truly a giant SCAM foisted upon us and we sit back and accept it as it is.

IN YOUR OWN WORDS - TOM. I don't want your google, cut and paste crap. Still if it's all you've got I suppose it passes for knowledge.

Oh, I see you did use your own words - 5 of them "our oil is on land" - very profound but I don't see how that fits any known definition of "ethical"

I bet some of the cancer victims in Fort Chipewyan wish that the tar sands were offshore rather than on land. But I'm guessing you'd rather sweep that under the table along with the folks at Rosbud with their well water that catches fire, the pollution of the aquifers by fracking. All's good in the energy sector in Alberta - if you believe everything that comes out of the mouths of the Communist Conservative Government. So are you back towing the PC line now TOM seeing the Wildrose wouldn't have you?

I'd like to ask how long has the sand been leaking into the river before we came along??
                Wasting fresh water is wrong.
Better technologies are being used all the time. The tarsands are quite large compared to the area touched yet.
Question; has anyone ever had a few beers with someone who's drilled in Russia?? Libya??
Keeping the golden goose in tight rein is one thing, but strangling it is stupid. Ask yourself what the Chinese would'nt do with this resource?
Take a look at what the Chinese are doing to get it.
Take a good look at what some First Nations people are really pulling in $$$
And yes Burbert just might be a banana; Delusional arguing just to share the smell, or is that closer to an outhouse??

ole Ostrich Framer. Others that work in
the industry simply have their heads up
their own a holes or the bosses. This is
why the C's are soooooo, sucessful here in
                  Albertie, cousin suckups and informers
abound, in a province filled with high

It seems, just like every other watermellon out there, you are spreading false statements to further your cause. I find that disturbing.

Did you actually read the report you posted?

"Fifty-one cancers in 47 individuals were found in Fort Chipewyan between 1995 and 2006, compared to 39 cancers expected"

I bet those extra 12 people with cancer (or 20% over statistical expectations) were/are pretty concerned about the issue.

How ethical was the treatment of the doctor who raised the initial concern?
Health Canada charged him with "causing undue alarm in Fort Chipewyan and causing mistrust of government" among other things - charges which were later found to have no foundation.

"Causing mistrust of government" that sounds a bit North Koreaish does it not?
Only in Alberta - where every last thing is now controlled by the cabinet room.
