Thanks ianben, say, how are the winter crops fairing over there? What percent of total production would winter crops makeup? Is the trend to grow winter crops growing or slowing?

Just to follow up on the original theme, a strong close as well. Gains held up during the day in a day that was likely actively traded - will have to look at volume and open interest.

Hi boarderbloke
We are 100% winter sown
wheat barley and OSR/canola even trying
winter sown linseed / flax, priced as a
premium to canola.

Wheat and canola definately yield better
here winter sown, barley and linseed
perhaps not so marked but we grow both
for the July harvest date.

Spring sown linseed can be hard work to
combine in September due to our damp
climate. In September I want to be
sowing wheat not combining.

Crops look well considering we have had
one of the coldest Decembers on record,
even the linseed which is marginal for
cold.
Mild again now though but more very cold
weather could change how crops look come
spring.

I would guess UK is 80/90% winter sown
but as always weather has the final
say,at least we get two chances.
Barley, peas/beans, canola, linseed, and
wheat would be spring sown and acres
numbers would be as listed.

as to barley/feed wheat/corn ratios and proper
comparisons,nothing i am seeing is making sence.

I have the same frustration. I don't know of any formally posted site. ARD does have good data bases and I could provide a spread sheet with some history.

The struggles of western barley futures to get volume and the reliance on the cash market (mainly in the nearby) does speak to the issue of price discovery (or lack there of). Other issues but they have been beat to death on Agriville.

What you are talking about is "WAY" more interesting
to me than what i was pointing at-which was an
automatic command control of feed grain shipments
an movements to satisfy the feed grain industry.

I ASSumed things where in place,but never bothered
with it.

Anywhoo...the carnage a motivated trader or traders
