rpkaiser: Was a resolution brought forward by the zone director supporting 2 industry council reps (packers) getting voting seats on the ABP Board of Directors. How did that go?

cowman: The evidence of Packer wrong doing, the smoking gun, is the unfair profits the packers were making while the rest of the industry was brought to its knees. If the Parliamentary Committee could investigate the packers profits the proof would be there for all to see.

You hit the nail on the head when you said the packers were in a position to pay whatever they wanted. And they took that position and abused it in order to make obscene profits for their American bosses while the rest of the industry bled to death, only kept alive only by injections of billions of taxpayer dollars.

Farmer_son - The resolution made last year read ....
"Be it resolved ABP present a detailed plan regarding industry council at the 2004 semi annual meeting to the delegates for approval."
At the semi annual meeting in June 2004, a plan change was approved which provides for creation of the Industry Council and allows for up to two seats on the Board of Directors.

I presume this means it has been passed, but will look into it and get back to you.

It's not an exercise in futility to investigate the packers if it leads to our government finally developing enough backbone to come up with some solutions so it doesn't happen again.

The people who have the power to change the way things run in the beef industry really have never seen 'inside' it to know what goes on. I would think that a parliamentary committe poring through the records of the past year and a half would come out with an education that may just be put to good use.
