I don't know if I ever said that I realy support them!
What I have said more than once is that we need to expend our thoughts and energy where we should have some influence. Here in our own back yard.
The criticism that you sling at the Americans all the time (with a big brush) can most certainly be leveled at industry in our own country.
If you want them to open the border, then maybe cap in hand, and please and thank you are the words we use. That is all I'm trying to say.

But isn't that always the way we deal with the US? And we get the same treatment every time. Maybe it's time for some different tactics to get some different results. I don't mean business their way (I don't want to stoop to their level), but maybe just giving them what they want all the time because we worry we might piss them off is not the right way either. It's time we stopped acting like a bunch of American lapdogs. Canadian interests and US interests are not always identical. I have no desire to become the 51st state!

Johnny boy, you remind me of Simon on American Idol . Many think he is a jerk but he sure adds to the entertainment.
Regarding your question about the border, I personally think it will inevitably disappear.
Other than the often debated reasons of western alienation we really have no connection with eastern Canada. Most of us have no contact with them. When was the last time you talked to someone down east [not incl. telemarketers or beaughcrats]?
Our parent went east for jobs; our kids go to the US. With NAFTA anyone with a degree can work in either country. I coached pee wee hockey when my kids were playing. I had the privilege of coaching 11 bright kids one year. A real pleasure. 5 of them are now working or have worked in the U.S.
Our trade patterns are more north / south all the time. If the Ontario border was closed to our beef would there be as much desperation and finger pointing.
Look around your yard and see what you would miss if you didn’t trade with eastern Canada.
History shows that the east did all they could to keep the west from joining our southern neighbor. They haven’t done much lately.
Johnny boy, you say you just returned from the states. How many just returned from the east. How many have ever been there.
Enough with the rant. Time to go check for calves. It’s cold out there today. I hope this is the last of it.

I believe that the interests of the people (like you and me)are very much the same. Like our core values of freedom, justice, family etc.

The interests of the ruling class who like to tell us what to think I will grant you, might be quite different.

The interest of the mental mind molesters in much of our media who like to tell us what is important today, or how we must, as Canadians, "define " ourselves.
Like "definetly NOT American or "we have Medicare" etc, truly do have an axe to grind. Keeping us brain washed that we are so "different" justify's the way they govern. They want us to feel "protected"!! Well do you?

I have said it before and I will say it again. The low dollar policy of the Canadian Government over the past 30 years, (that was good for Quebec manufactures)has been a bust for much of western canada industry. They own our packing plants and much more.

The problems we face today can be blamed on the pickpocket bums in Ottawa....don't let them make you look the other way.

I was conned, have been conned, but not any more.
