    tip of berg

Just read where 14 of the 15 e-coli
cases in Saskatchewan were not linked to
    XL.

So where did they come from? Is XL just
the tip of berg for contaminated food
    getting through the system?

It sounds like, just because they didn't
come out of XL it is okay.

There are always ecoli cases year round...and often not from meat.
I think the way XL and the CFIA handled this incident created all the noise?
The way it was handled showed just how incompetent they all were?
I'm involved, on a small scale, in a food business (seasonal mobile food vendor) and got randomly inspected 3 times this summer. You just can't ignore the rules....water has to be a certain temperature....refrigeration has to be a certain temperature. Has to be clean and sterilized. Everything has to be up to specs. You never know when the health inspector will show up.
I usually am involved in building one ot two mobile units a year and it is amazing how the Alberta health inspectors do not even know what specs are required! We build to USDA specs....much higher than what is presently required in Alberta.

If Alberta is like Manitoba, the health inspector won't be from the CFIA. We get the occasional visit at the farmer's market as well. We have certain foods we cannot sell, we have labeling requirements, and we have guidelines.

Maybe the CFIA should report to the Health Department, rather than whoever they report to now?

Most common cause of in restaurants is people not washing their hands after using the bathroom.
5 cases in Regina from 1 high end popular restaurant.
11 cases in Canada from 1 packing plant makes all the beef in the world unsafe according to some.

Report says 14 cases linked to Flip
restaurant in Regina not linked to XL and
remains a mystery. Restaurant cleared and
            reopened.

            XL Beef, tip of berg.
