50 ton OTC pneumatic shop press....$2500. But there's about 20% buyers and settle fees on top of that and taxes. Still not a horrible buy.

Question: Doesn't air compress more than oil. So if your trying to press apart something that's seized together and the pressing pressure is very high when it finally breaks loose, does the cylinder shaft want to slam into the stationary part placed on the presses adjustable base? It just seems to me you would have better control with oil than air. Is there more "potential elastic" stored energy in the compressed air than the compressed oil....so when what's holding the pressure finally let's go(the seized parts)....look out?

I'm probably not clear in my description.

An airline to a foot treadle and then looks like from there to the press's cylinder.

There's even an "A" in the model number...probably designates air operated. No pictures of a hydraulic (reservoir) pump or electric motor.

Pressure multiplied up probably just like air brakes.

            I must be missing something.

Someone explain to me how this thing works. duh.

It looks like a hydraulic hose coming out of the foot treadle. but if that foot treadle is also the hydraulic reservoir..... how can that be enough oil to fully extend the press's cylinder? How can 100-150 psi of air pressure create 50 tons of pressing pressure?

The pump with the foot control can make 10000 psi. Air operated.

The ram is not original and looks like a fairly short stroke. Maybe 5500 new? Looks like it was a top notch shop

that little gadget is an air pump that compresses oil in the ram. Oil is a liquid, liquids cannot be compressed whereas a gas (air) can.

Is that is an oil reservoir under that foot treadle? If it is, it must not take much oil to operate the ram.

That is an oil reservoir under the treadle as we have the same deal for our hydraulic hose crumpet and hydraulic tire bead breaker. It holds quite a bit of oil and ours is rated at 10,000 psi so I wouldn’t want to be around when a hose or fitting lets go😉.

Arbor press mounted on end worth probably 1200 new. 2500 not a bad buy

There was a steep buyers fee on top of bid price. But still probably less than 1/2 price with the arbor.

princess auto sells air and hydraulic presses upto 50 tonnes. ive had a hydraulic one for years. works well. dangerous tool if you don't properly secure the objects your pressing. ive had them fly out like a bullet.
