North Dakota wheat yields better than expected!

So when the USDA or Crop tours didn't count hrs fields that were ugly now comes bullshit reports like this.
Growers and agronomists in North Dakota were wondering in early July if any spring wheat would be produced in the western half of the state.

Parts of the region were in an extreme drought: as little to no rain had fallen since April. As well, blistering heat, in the range of 35 C, scorched the crop in early July.

The region remained hot and dry well into the month, but the spring wheat crop was more resilient than projected. Now that we’ve got into combining … yields actually were a little better than people were expecting,” said John Rickertsen, a North Dakota State University extension agronomist in Hettinger, about 20 kilometres from the South Dakota border.

“There is stuff that’s below 10 bushels, but there are yields that are running 35.”

Spring wheat yields of 45 to 60 bu. per acre are more typical for the region. Rickertsen said yields would likely be half of normal.

That’s not great, but considering Hettinger received almost no rain from April until early July, any yield is a bonus.

“We had really (good) stored moisture,” Rickertsen said before seeding.

“That’s what saved us this year.”

The story is similar in other parts of western North Dakota.

Erica Olson, a North Dakota Wheat Commission marketing specialist, has heard yield reports of 15 to 25 bu. an acre in the drought area. The spring wheat yields are higher, more like 25 bu., in the west-central part of the state.

“The yields aren’t anything great, just better than what they would have expected given the weather,” Olson said.

The spring wheat harvest in North Dakota has been delayed because rained finally arrived in early August.

Clair Keene, a NDSU extension agronomist in Williston, said 25 to 50 millimetres of rain have fallen in the last couple of weeks.

“We had the worst possible conditions for a wheat crop,” Rickertsen said.

“Dry early and hot in June, when it was flowering…. Now that we’re getting into harvest, we’re getting cool and wet (weather).”

North Dakota farmers planted 5.25 million acres of spring wheat this year, about half of the total spring wheat crop in the United States.

Bull shit reporting to drive any market lower that has to be the game.

YA this is Billy Bob we done just finished harvesting the back 40 acres along the crick and we was so surprised that it yielded 8 bus a acre. Hell we thought it was a zero area.

How did it do last few years.

Well let me see i get crop insurance if it under 60 so i guess we have a 60 bus crop last 10 years or so.

But we really surprised. it was only field we harvest this year.

Thank you Jesus we did ok.

    Crop scouting at its finest.

Shit crop is a shit crop.

It said ND is now receiving rain.

The market's take on this: Soil moisture reserves are getting replenished, so production could be up next year. Fake news.

It definitely gives them the option to borrow from next year's crop to keep 2017 production higher than it should be....

Clean fields with an early harvest this year coupled with adequate moisture.....means the crop could be earlier next year allowing them to balance on 2018 production....

Odd that USDA/crop tours seemed to avoid western regions of South and North Dakota.

You would think the more acres toured the higher the accuracy.

They won't be able to deny the drought forever. The chickens always come home to roost. Then look out.

They will avoid the worst by borrowing from the 2018 crop. They are hoping no drought next year. Listen to the comments. Major rain hits ND Etc Etc.

Its a game i always said it was and Farmers are in last place.

This analyst is suggesting plenty of downside in wheat yet. Is looking for CBoT WHEAT DEC to drop to $3.40/bus. (that's the board price, image taking basis off that)

MGEX Wheat always(most always) runs at a higher value, but they mostly run in tandem.

N.D. finding more wheat,,,I think so will SK. Yours SF3 for example, will be better than you think.

There is a huge wheat crop out there not discovered yet. More so if you're driving a new holland than a Deere. That will have an effect on the total production more than this made up fox\cnn drought.
