The news reports say there is an oversupply of LNG capacity in North America and that this project was not competitive enough with US suppliers. Low prices and weak demand.

The lower the price the more concessions you give to the companies or in fact doesn't matter if the price is crazy high like oil was in saskatxhewan you go all in with nothing to show for it. You don't ask for more because obviously they won't give it to you. Foreign resource money has and is leaving Canada. We have a slow ineffective approval process for new infrastructure projects. This LNG project's failure was due to the inability of government to get it done. Combine that with a more costly tax structure(carbon tax et al), more stringent regulations(not necessarily bad) and the election of NDP governments in Alberta and BC and foreign money is going to more investment friendly jurisdictions.

Buying potash mines was such a great experiment. Maybe this time gas fields then sell the product to who oh Sask people. That's a money maker. Keep it in the ground till when they discover a real alternative and were left holding the bag.

Jurisdiction allows pipelines to move LNG and oil
Jurisdiction allows tankers to move LNG and oil

NDP/Green in BC with Liberal federal government + NDP Alberta government has stated a large exodus of capital and large investments.
Just ask ConocoPhillips, Royal Dutch Shell, Total, Petronas and others.

But ahhhhhh the social programs will pay for themselves!!!!!

The LNG export market was a race to be first to have the infrastructure in place, before the market gets saturated. It has been well known in industry that the late coming projects would not be feasible, hence the reason for all the foriegn money funding the locals to delay these projects as long as possible. They won, and the tree hugger's were just the useful idiots in the entire plan.
