I didn't know you guys got enough moisture to get equipment stuck in OZ. Seriously though this is going to be a bigger problem going forward since we have achieved practical total isolation in rural areas. Reckless money printing by central banks has hastened the elimination of rural community over the last decade and now everyone is a competitor and there are no neighbors anymore.

Once in awhile we think back to our years in a rural community back when. Everyone knew everyone, who their parents were, what church they attended very sunday, every little thing. We spent our winters volunteering at two local rinks, flipping burgers, scrubbing rink floors, buying rink supplies. Curling bonspiels were a big deal. We were Community with a capital "C". We dragged our little ones, behind us and they played with other kids, skated, curled, played hockey every chance. There was such a sense of belonging as we welcomed new comers into the fold. Do you remember sport days and days where all the local families congregated at the beach? (I wonder if any communities still revolve around "the rink".) Every summer, a timely rain meant it was time for a party, pull the barbeque into the garage and leave the door open to listen to the rain and some farm families came over, bringing whatever they found in their fridge. Far too often, the local boys gathered to put away a bottle of two Bacardi and hide to play a night of Stook, Bullshit Poker and Cribbage. Those were pretty good days. Rural life is so different now that many of the neighbours are gone. In one generation, a big brush painted a whole new picture. Isolation is the new man in town.
