    We have a winner

Russia has become the world’s leading exporter of grain, President Vladimir Putin said at his annual news conference. "Exports are growing, they are becoming massive. We have taken the lead in the world in terms of grain exports," he said. According to the President, in 2017, the grain harvest may exceed 130.5 mln tonnes. The decision to subsidize rail transportation, including grain, should work and help agricultural producers, he said. "We definitely agreed with the government upon rail transportation subsidizing. I cannot say whether the final decision was taken or not but it should be made and should bear fruit. This pertains to transportation at large and for exports in particular," Putin said. An option with government procurements of grain is not ruled out, the head of state noted. "No doubts, grain producers need support. It can be implemented in different ways or with the use of government procurements. I do not think this is an excluded option, although the government does not regard it as feasible," Putin said. The government is drafting a decree to compensate a portion of costs of grain carriage by rail from regions remote from ports, Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich said earlier. According to his assessment, this would make possible to additionally export 3 mln tonnes of grain. (ITAR TASS)

Russia's Putin does not rule out state grain purchases support producers - Russia does not rule out holding state grain purchases to support domestic producers, President Vladimir Putin told his annual press conference on Thursday. Russia harvested a record 139.8 million tonnes of grain before drying and cleaning this year.

Now we compete against their treasury. Plus rail subsidies.

Ukraine 2017/18 grain exports at 18.6 mln T so far - Ukraine has exported 18.6 million tonnes of grain in the agricultural year that began in July, down from about 20 million in the same period last year, the Agriculture Ministry said on Thursday. The exports included 10.7 million tonnes of wheat, 3.7 million tonnes of barley and around 4.1 million tonnes of maize, it said in a statement. Exports at the same point a year ago included about 10.8 million tonnes of wheat. Ukraine has said it harvested 62.3 million tonnes of grain this year compared with a record 66 million in 2016. The season runs from July to June. The ministry has said grain exports could reach 44 million to 45 million tonnes this year, exceeding the previous season's record of 43.9 million tonnes.

Suddenly woke up and it is 1985 again. Back then it was growing surpluses in Europe and the Export Enhancement Program in the US. Better get the high priced land sold.

Latest WASDE pumped up Canada production by 3MMT. Rest of the world steady.
Forecasts are for the world to absorb about 2MMT of that increase leaving stocks 1 MMT higher that November report estimates.
Did Canada produce 30MMT of wheat in 2017?

Does anyone know why the Russians are doing this?

Because a bushel in the ground equals up to 45 bushels out....it's wealth creation if you are an exporting nation....the farmers may not be wealthy but everyone between the farm and the end user is....

So you have to support farmers to continue to generate the basics for wealth creation...

Not to many suits running combines but they understand where their wealth comes from....

Governments of Canada do not understand this. . ...that is why we only led the infrastructure building of the world back in the early 1900s or late 1800s.....

Canada has been resting on its laurels ever since....

The wealth creators in Canada are being taxed out of business. Carbon tax is no exception to that .

I ageee we need less costs passed down to farmers because the neutral tax is now going to bring in 200 mill just firing up. Yea it’s neutral al right.

You can’t keep kicking th producers of wealth sooner or later we turn.

I said it here before but no one seemed to either believe it or thought it was bullshit. I flew from Saskatoon to Calgary and back at the beginning of Nov. You could literally count the grain bags on one hand.
