Trevor was born and raised on a farm south of Lloydminster. He completed his post secondary education at University of Saskatchewan. Here he obtained a degree in Agriculture with a double major in Food Science and Applied microbiology and Crop Science. Upon completing university he worked for DowElanco as a Territory Representative in Brandon, Manitoba. Trevor then moved back to Alberta to take a position with United Grain Growers as Manager, Seed Testing Services where he managed seed testing laboratories in Alberta and Manitoba. Trevor-currently serves a President and Chief Operating Officer of BioVision Seed Research Limited, a joint venture company between United Grain Growers and Norwest Soil Research Limited.

Trevor also owns farmland and is actively involved in farming.
