Mike is a member and former Vice-Chair of the Agriculture and Food Council of Alberta (AFC), a cross industry organization representing producers, processors and retailers and responsible for delivering the $45 million Federal Canadian Adaptation and Rural Development Funds.

He is a founding board member of the Western Agri-Food Institute, an Agri-Food Industry Think Tank dedicated to preparing Canadian rural residents, towns and farm producers for future changes to allow them to capture opportunity and prepare for risk.

He is also a Founding Governor of the University of Alberta’s Functional Foods of Alberta Centre of Excellence (FFACE), an organization that puts Industry partners together with university researchers to develop innovative new health, nutraceutical and functional food products for the prevention and mitigation of health problems.

Mike is President of NAKODO, a firm that specializes in the Japanese market and the development of products for export to Japan. He is very comfortable in other cultures having traveled extensively in Asia. He speaks Japanese and has made over 35 trips to the region over the last 13 years and maintains representative offices in Alberta, Ontario, Manitoba and Tokyo.

Mike also serves as a board member and chair of 2 other private firms; a Provincial consulting firm Cere’s Forte Inc. and a National consulting firm Call Canada 99 Inc.

Mike was selected as one of 28 Canadians to join the Canadian Agricultural Leaders for a Lifetime (CALL 99) program.

He is currently serving as Knowledge Officer for AVAC Ltd., a not-for-profit organization dedicated to increasing agri-value within the Alberta agri-food sector.
